This pair of paintings were created using both direct painting and glazing techniques.    The colors are truly vibrant and Alkyd paints do not become brittle with age (a problem with traditional oil paints)  The pigments used in this painting include Indian Yellow, Alizarin Crimson Raw Umber, Burnt Sienna and Titanium White.

Traditionally the Honu or Sea Turtle was a guardian for the ancient Hawaiian family.   Sea turtles are currently an endangered species.  Petroglyphs are a favorite subject of mine and I am very pleased with the texture and vibrant colors in this piece.
