This piece features five panels
arranged in various levels. The interesting geometric
panel shapes cast shadows on the wall and adds visual depth
to the painting. The subject matter has Two Honu
petroglyphs (Sea Turtle is Hawaiin is called Honu).
The size is 76"
wide x 45" high and comes off of the wall 3 inches.
"I am always looking to find a
balance in my panel pieces. This is different from
symmetry which has exact equal halves on each side.
What I am looking for is visual balance which is achieved
with heavier (larger) shapes on the bottom and also with
colors. Another consideration when working on a panel
piece is how much to "cut up" the subject matter with the
intersecting geometric panels. Too much space
in-between the panels (negative space) and it's hard to
recognize what the subject matter is...not enough negative
space an the piece can be boring. I am always looking
for the equilibrium or balance point when working on a panel
piece - the physical balance point and an overall visual
balance."
