This Petroglyph is carved on natural slate and includes bamboo and hemp wall hanger. The design is carved into the surface of the stone and darkened with pigments.

Petroglyph is a word that comes from the Greek words, "petros", for rock and 'glyphen", to carve. Literally, petroglyphs are rock carvings. The ancient Hawaiians called them ki'i pohaku or stone images.

Traditionally the Honu or Sea Turtle was a guardian for the ancient Hawaiian family.   Sea turtles are currently an endangered species.
