The Pineapple was first
introduced into Hawaii in the early 1800's by Don Francisco de
Paula y Marin, the Spanish advisor to King Kamehameha I.
Commercial pineapple plantations were established in the late
19th century and ushered in the Plantation Era of Hawaiian
history. Pineapple fields still dot the Hawaiian landscape today
and remind us of Old Hawaii.
The back of the carving features a
history of the petroglyph and a short artist bio. The
piece is also signed and dated by the artist.
"The coloring on this carving is soft and subtle which
contrasts nicely with the detailed carved pineapples.
There is also fine surface texture which helps to add movement
to the piece."
